Summer "Progress"

Hi everyone, I hope you're trucking right along with your summer--now that it's already 2/3 over. It's going fast!

What I've done so far this summer:

WRITING STUFF
1. The end of June I finished the first round of revisions for my agent.
2. I joined Facebook and Goodreads.
3. I redesigned my author website, HERE. New stuff on the last 2 tabs and will add more later once I get a publisher and a book cover. I used Blogger as an easy and free template; my techie hubby removed the blogging elements--the ones I couldn't delete myself, like that dumb Post Atom thingy and the nav bar. It only cost the $12 annual domain-name-fee from GoDaddy. Can't beat that!
4. Today I'm featured as a WOW guest writer on Adventures to Children's Publishing! Click for more on my journey of writing and obtaining an agent.
5. I wrote 3 pages of a new WIP plus some plot notes. Um…better than nothing.
6. I've critiqued some stuff for my critter buddies.

NON-WRITING STUFF
1. I saw Harry Potter 7 pt 2 with my daughter, her boyfriend, my hubby, and some Kleenex. Love that Gringots' dragon!! Great special effects throughout.
2. Had a BBQ with the neighbors with mozzarella sausages, grapes, garlic salsa and chips, and chocolate chunk cookies. Yummers!
3. I read DIVERGENT by Veronica Roth. Quite a fast-paced read. Reminded me of HUNGER GAMES, with its elimination theme and the violent/bloody parts. If you haven't read it, hang tight. I plan to use it as a blog giveaway prize in the future!!
4. The hubbs and I vacationed on the Oregon coast, tent camping. Here's a lovely deserted beach we found north of Florence:

YOUR TURN
How are your writing goals and projects going this summer?
Are you enjoying family, friends, and sun--or doing any traveling?
Have you seen the final Harry Potter movie yet? Didja need Kleenex?

  2. I'm so glad you talked about your website. I went through hostmonster but I'm a techy loser! I have a friend coming over Friday night who's a wizard at techy stuff to help me decide what to do. I want to keep my blog at blogger.

Speaking of wizards, I did see Potter and loved it! I made a comment to hubby that the effects were incredible. And yep, I cried. An end of an era! :)

    Love the picture. Beautiful!

  3. The end of the Harry Potter movie was kind of sweet/sad. Seeing the kids all grown up and sending their children off to Hogwarts. I did get a little weepy.

I had an eventful writing summer too, and will probably be busy for the rest of the year.

I enjoyed reading your post on WOW Wednesday. It was great to read about your journey.

  4. Congratulations on being a WOW guest writer on Adventures to Children's Publishers. Also, congratulations on your revisions and new WIP.

I haven't been so productive on the writing front. While I've been recuperating from my foot surgery, I've mostly been reading and blogging about what I've read. (Come take a look.) In a few weeks I hope to be back at my WIP again. I miss it!

  6. Wow, you're just hopping along like a busy bunny. And you've made me hungry for sausage and grapes. You're lucky your hubby knows how to mess with all that stuff. I haven't seen Harry Potter yet but will hopefully go this weekend. Glad to hear you're working on a new book. Good luck with that. :)

  7. I'm back at university, so things still need to settle back into a new routine. Still have to finish revisions. Still have to get some writing done. In the mean time, there's a completely new project in the pipe-line.

    :-)

  8. I can't believe summer is on the way out. It seems like we've been busy, busy but I can't think of anything we've done. Went to the lake a couple times, entertained family for a couple weeks. Wrote some.

I still need to see Harry Potter!

  9. He he, you know all the answers to your questions . . . except for the last one.

I'm going to see Harry Potter soon. Tomorrow it's the other heart throb's movie: Winnie the Pooh. :D

  10. I think the Gringott's dragon was one of the best underdog (er, underdragon) moment in the whole movie!

  11. I'll wait for Harry to come on DVD. I was a bit jaded by part 1.
You've been super busy this summer--that's why it's going so fast ;)

  12. you sound like you've been busy. I love the look of your website. I bet it feels good to get that going.

I read Divergent(listened to it on audible, actually-the narrator is really good) a few weeks ago and I loved it. So much in fact, that I listened to again while waiting for next month credit for a new book. Hourglass by Myra McEntire is really good too. :D

  13. I want to have a good chunk of my sequel first draft started before the first snowfall (or all of it if I can).

Looks like you have a great balance of life and work going.

    Enjoy the summer!

  14. Wow - awesome summer, Carol! I took my 10-year-old to HP. The tears started when McGonagall (sp?) stood up to Snape and didn't stop until the end (and yes, I read the book and knew what was going to happen...)

  15. Sounds like you've been productive! I've been doing a lot of journaling and accidental (and sometimes purposeful) poetry writing since I'm between writing projects, dun dun dun. It so doesn't feel like summer over here in the UK, it's been grey for weeks.

  16. I'm so jealous. I can't wait to see HP part 7.2. :) I'm chugging along on edits of my WIP, who has not been named. I hope to discover a title soon. Keep going, sounds like you are making lots of progress!

  17. this was the summer the move ate for me, but we did manage to see HP7.2, and it was fantastic. I didn't have Kleenex, but I should've. It was great.

  18. Hi Carol!! Congrats on your author website - that's so awesome. I'll go check it out as soon as I'm done typing here. :)

It sounds like you've had a fun, productive summer! I've done a good bit of writing and critiquing, myself. Not as much as I'd like, but working on it. And I love that picture of the beach - what a great find!

  19. A very productive summer! That beach pic is gorgeous! It looks so lush with all that grass right up to the shore... most Florida beaches near me are really busy and not so natural.

  26. I'm glad you're my friend on goodreads. I hardly ever rate though. I just add the books I want to read and the ones I have read.

I love hearing the progress with your agented book. I can't wait to read it! And I'm excited about your new WIP...is it the one we talked about?

I loved Divergent and the Oregon coast is beautiful! We camped in Florence a few years ago. We ended up staying an extra night! We are camping on the beach in a few weeks too. It's good to hear from you :)
